The Cardiology Discipline within the Department of Internal Medicine of Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy of the Republic of Moldova has benefited from high-performance medical equipment for monitoring and diagnosing patients with heart conditions. The equipment is distributed to the clinical base of the mentioned discipline which is located on the premises of Sfanta Treime Municipal Clinical Hospital of the capital and will be available both for patients, during the clinical activity, and for the training of students and resident doctors.
The donation was made to Nicolae Testemitanu University administration on October 28, 2022 by Daniel Hauri, a member of the Rotary Club of Switzerland, and by representatives of the organization from our country, during a meeting with the first vice-rector Olga Cernetchi, vice-rector for teaching activity, and university professor Liviu Grib, cardiologist.
According to the representatives of Rotary Club, the donation is worth 8400 euro and includes an ambulatory monitoring device for recording the electrocardiogram and blood pressure during 24 hours, including a data recording software.
First vice-rector Olga Cernetchi expressed her gratitude to the entire Rotary community for their support and help. Now, our university trains about 6000 young people at eight study programs, of which 2000 are international students from 47 countries. In addition, specialists follow postgraduate residency studies in 47 medical specialties, and annually 5,500 doctors and pharmacists from the entire country benefit from continuing medical education courses. "The country’s higher medical education is concentrated at Nicolae Testemitanu University and one of our advantages lies in the fact that all republican, municipal and district hospitals are university clinical bases. The level of equipment with medical devices is different, therefore the possibilities are also different, and students do not have access to all the equipment. This is why the donation so generously offered is welcome, as it will serve not only for the medical process, but also for the educational process during the training of students and resident doctors", assured the first vice-rector.
For his part, professor Liviu Grib emphasized that the Rotary Club's assistance priorities focus on education and health. That is why selecting our institution under this project was the right decision, since Nicolae Testemitanu University specifically trains doctors who will work or are already working in the health care system. "We hope for a fruitful collaboration because both the University and the health system need a lot of support," the professor emphasized.
According to Daniel Hauri, this is a good example of how Rotary International cooperates and builds relationships and friendships between different countries. The donation was made through a global grant approved by the Rotary International Foundation, to which the Rotary clubs of Switzerland and the Republic of Moldova contributed financially.
Alexandru Robu, a member of the Rotary Club of Moldova, specified that the Rotary Foundation contributed to equipping seven randomly selected hospitals in the country during the COVID-19 pandemic. They were provided with medical equipment as needed, including supplies.
